NISS founded by Dr. Mustafa Mahamid started his career as a structural engineer at GRAEF and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) in Chicago. His designs include a wide variety of projects, including healthcare, commercial, residential, industrial, and high-rise buildings located in the U.S., Europe, Middle East, and China. His experience extends to various building materials, including steel, concrete, wood, and masonry. He is a licensed Structural Engineer (SE) and Professional Engineer (PE & P.Eng) in multiple states in the US and Canada and a registered civil engineer in Israel. He is a fellow of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Structural Engineering Institute (SEI), and American Concrete Institute (ACI). He is the editor-in-chief of the STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING HANDBOOK 5th edition and for CROSS-LAMINATED TIMBER DESIGN, 1st Edition, both books were published in May 2020 with McGraw-Hill. He is a co-author of the upcoming books STEEL CONNECTION DESIGN BY INELASTIC ANALYSIS, by Wiley, and STEEL, CONCRETE, AND COMPOSITE DESIGN OF TALL AND SUPERTALL BUILDINGS by McGraw-Hill. His research interests extend to steel structures, earthquake engineering and fire structural engineering.
